Book Reading with The Lost Girl author Ambelin Kwaymullina, plus an appearance by Geronimo Stilton for fun activities!

The Lost Girl is a stunning new picture book by award winning writer Ambelin Kwaymullina, with beautiful illustrations by indigenous artist Leanne Tobin. The book comes to life with a reading by the author at Boffins these school holidays. The event is completely free and a fun event for kids aged 3 to 8. The book tells the story of a little girl who has strayed from her family and needs help from Mother Nature to find her way home. Combining the melody of traditional aboriginal story telling with vibrant paintings, the book is a credit to both writer and artist and a must have Australian treasure. Ambelin Kwaymullina’s homeland of the Palyku people is the bold arid landscape of the Pilbara in Western Australia. She has written many picture books that include favourites such as The Crow and the Waterhole and the The Two Hearted Numbat, with strong influences in nature and family storytelling. She has also written a dystopian series for young adults called The Tribe, which blends popular fiction with themes of environmental conservation and caste discrimination. All of Ambelin’s books are important discussions on the preservation of friendship, family, respect and our natural world. Ambelin works in Cultural Heritage and also illustrates picture books. Leanne Tobin has been a working artist for over 30 years, winning awards for her independent style and indigenous influences. She is a descendant of the Dharug, the traditional Aboriginal people of Greater Western Sydney. Her work reflects her heritage, which is a mix of Irish, English and Aboriginal and she creates using a mix of mediums, symbolism and story telling. She is a primary teacher and is also involved as an educator within the community, teaching Dharug histories, stories and land care, also running various creative workshops for both indigenous and non-indigenous organisations. This is Leanne's first picture book.
