The 100 houses featured in this volume, designed by 100 different architects, range from deceptively simple to over-the-top gorgeous. Many of the houses portrayed in this book turn conventional notions of appearance and design upside down, while others reflect the emerging trend toward sustainable design, proving energy efficiency and style are not mutually exclusive concepts. Among the projects featured are contemporary houses slotted into traditional settings, such as a modern project on a cobbled street in Ljubljana, Slovenia; a utilitarian structure nestled in a vineyard in pastoral New Zealand and a concrete polyhedron incised into a minuscule spot in the Tokyo metropolis.
